Reminders: click to enlarge

First Day Meeting

We will meet as a team at 10 on the first day of school for our first school-wide celebration! Those parents who go to the First Day Tea may also join us.

See you there!

FYI

From Tech:

2017-18 websites update
August 28, 2017

Because we went with a different provider for our district website, we won’t be renewing our subscription to Schoolcenter this year. Starting on January 1, Schoolcenter-based classroom websites will no longer be accessible.

  • We are encouraging all teachers who wish to maintain their sites to use the first semester to migrate it to Google Sites.
  • We encourage all teachers who use (or want to use) a class website to register and complete the Cadet Tech On Demand course on Google Sites.

Extended Voting Deadline

I need to extend the voting for SWEET Time until this Friday. If you did not vote for the day of the week for SWEET Time, please do. No voting twice for those who have a deep passion for a day! :)

Right now it is a dead tie for Wednesday and Friday, so those who have not voted, please do. The link to vote is here: VOTE HERE

Student Safety, First

With the new security system in place, wearing your badge is all the more important. Please be sure to wear it each day. In addition, the building is not going to remain unlocked after hours, so please be mindful about having it so you have a way in.

I know it is easy to forget to wear a badge and it is not the best fashion statement, but thank you in advance for making this a professional habit.

Relationships, Relationships, Relationships

Relationships are the foundation of all we do. The research is clear: when a child feels safe, they are often able to take the necessary risks involved in learning. I would argue that a strong relationship with a child's home also supports the work that is done on behalf of the child. Each little thing we do either adds an emotional deposit into that relationship's bank account, or it withdraws from it. As we begin our journey together, I would love to learn how our dynamic learning community forms great relationships with our kids.

The start of the year represents a fresh opportunity to establish great relationships. As we learned in FISH, we have a chance to be there, make their day, choose our attitude, and have some fun--all of which are practices that support relationship building.  Please take a second to reflect on what you do to intentionally build relationships with our learners and our families by filling out the survey. A name is not required as this is completely anonymous, but I may share out some of the ideas in a later blog post.

Lots to Share

Team,

We have a lot of boards to showcase all the great stuff that we do here at QUEST, and we need each team to adopt a board and keep it full with all the positives that are happening at your level. So far, we have had a couple teams communicate a point person or share that they have a rotating schedule for their board. We are working to label these boards so families and the community know what level they are looking at when they walk by. Just an FYI, we have one board for:

  •  k
  • primary
  • elementary
  • intermediate
  • special area
  • IB
  • PTSO

Kids Deserve Our Best!

I'm impressed with the work ethic and dedication to service that our 12-month staff displays on a daily basis. We all play a huge part in making our school be all it can be, and I am grateful that I get to be surrounded by such great people each day. Be sure to provide Mike and his team lots of high-fives when you return to set up your area.

A Crying Principal?

Principals cry, too...especially when they glance at a file that has a pretty low number of staff summer photos. We are still accepting pictures of what you are doing this summer, so keep them coming, team!

Point People

Team,

Many hands make light work, and below you will find the names of our teammates who lead various activities.

Good Find by a Colleague

Thanks for sharing, Penny. Good find.

ATTITUDE
by
Charles Swindoll

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.  Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.  It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think, say or do.  It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.  It will make or break a company... a church... a home.  The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day.  We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.  We cannot change the inevitable.  The only thing we can do is play the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes”

Nobody wants to miss a birthday...

Team,

Unfortunately, we have an incomplete birthday list. During the hand-off from Donna to Hannah, Donna explained that some staff prefers not to have their birthday as part of school-wide communication. With that, please let us know if you do not want your birthday listed on the blog. A simple email to Hannah will suffice. If you notice your name is not listed during your birthday month but you are okay with it being shared, it may be because we don't have it on file and are assuming you don't want it listed, or haven't in the past. Please communicate with Hannah as well if that is the case.

Thanks!

Derek
