Team,
Morning Routines: Principal's Challenge for April
This morning, I was a a bit crazy and went on a 45 minute "trot" wearing a weighted backpack (it's actually called rucking). On my "trot" , I noticed a QUEST teacher out for a morning walk. I've also heard from a few of you about things you are adding to your mornings.
Team, your morning matters. It fuels you for the day and it sets the tone. If you walk into work tired, defeated, and already in an emotional/mental deficit, you simply can't bring your best or find joy in your work. Our routines become our habits which become us...I'm so excited to see/hear about people taking the morning routine challenge--feel free to keep sharing. Kudos!
Different Safety Responses
Near the light switch in each classroom you will find the Emergency Response poster. This follows the acronym SHELL (Shelter in Place, Hold-in-Place, Evacuate, Lockout, Lockdown). Each response is unique, and general instructions are listed. In addition to this, please remember that every situation is nuanced so I would provide further instructions if needed.
Thanks for keeping safety at the forefront.
Aud. Technology Point Person
The sound system in the auditorium is now locked. Because of the programming that goes into it, it is essential for it to be locked and that we do not have everyone using it. As music PC, Shalyn Pestilli has taken on the task of being our point person for the system. She has the key and is available to help set it up prior to morning meetings. Please visit her if you need to have it unlocked.
Nurse and Field Trips
With fieldtrips
returning to pre-pandemic levels this Spring, we wanted to send out a few
reminders related to nursing and medication administration on fieldtrips.
Teachers, please be sure to check in with your school nurse at least 2 weeks
prior to any fieldtrip to make sure the nurses have time to review and plan for
medical needs. In general, a nurse will only attend fieldtrips when it is
necessary due to specific student health requirements and a parent or parent
designee is not able to attend. We appreciate you giving the parents of
students with medical needs priority when choosing chaperones. We have
limited nursing staff and being able to keep our nurses in buildings is
important. Nurses will review each classes medical needs and determine if
a nurse is needed to administer medication on each fieldtrip. These
determinations are made in accordance with Regulations and are based on type of
medication and a student’s level of independence. Your nurses can answer
any specific questions that you may have. Thank you for your
collaboration in keeping our students safe and healthy.
New Librarian
Sarah Honsinger has been approved to be our librarian starting in the fall.
A huge thanks to Lisa Scottow for her efforts to keep things running, and for keeping students first. Lisa will be with us until the end of this month and then will be starting a new position outside of the district. Congrats Lisa, and thank you!
From the Office of Instruction
The district is looking for a
Hilton test center coordinator to conduct the SAT and PSAT through the College
Board along with the ACT. The coordinator works as an independent contractor in
partnership with College Board to: recruit and supervise test monitors and
proctors; manage materials; and oversee test days. Hilton has been offering
these tests and entrance exams for decades, and the test center coordinator
position helps provides a valuable resource to our high school students in the
college admissions process. If you are interested in learning more about
serving as a testing coordinator, please contact Ryan Miller, Director of
Community Education at rmiller@hilton.k12.ny.us.
