Weekly Update for week of 4/26/23

Team,

Something Personal:

Does anyone else ever feel like we live in a culture that is focused on waiting? We wait for the new home to be happy. We wait for the new job to be happy. We wait to start a family to be happy. We wait for retirement to be happy. In a way, we spend a lot of time living forward and resting our hope in the moments ahead. This idea has really hit home this week as I reflect upon how incredibly precious our time is, and how life has a way of reminding us about what matters most...the present moment.

There's a really awesome picture book called The Three Questions. This book takes us through the journey of a boy named Nikolai who is curious and wants to find the answer to three burning questions: When is the best time to do things? Who is the most important one? What is the right thing to do?

Nikolai goes on a journey to help someone else and ultimately learns that the best time to do things is now, the most important one is the person in front of you at any given moment, and the right thing to do is to do good for the person standing next to you. Chew on that a bit.

We love a good countdown until the end of the year, the idea of a long weekend, and vacations. We need these things to be balanced, and I certainly get excited about breaks from work as well. But what if our school fully embraces the present moment? How does that change the work? How does that impact our kids? How does that support your level of stress?

Like Nikolai, I hope you spend some time pondering his three questions. You certainly deserve it.

Something Professional:

Fundraising

Just a heads up:

Fundraisers that occur between September and October 14th need a fundraiser form submitted by June 15th.

Congrats on Tenure, Ashley

Please join me in congratulating Ashley Pierri on receiving tenure at the Tuesday BOE meeting. Well deserved and we appreciate all you do for QUEST, Ashley.

                                            Staffing Swap

As of today's date, all classroom teachers, special areas, and specialists are remaining in the same placements for next year.

The one swap we will have is within special education. Kennedy Johannes will become the 12:1:1, K-2 teacher. Alicia Francesca will become K-2 consultant teacher.

This news has not been shared with families and should remain inhouse until Alicia, Kennedy and I communicate with their parents.
