Enjoy!

Need-to-Know 5/21/20

  • Just another reminder: No instruction Monday for Memorial Day, and Friday (tomorrow) I would encourage you to go light and have high independence tasks.

A Note from Andrea:

  • QUEST! The big week for Grads is almost here! Virtual QUEST PYP Exhibition will take place Tuesday, May 26th through Friday, May 29th.

Friends, I am encouraging you, as a school community, to view as many as you can. Our children have put in enormous amounts of effort and have persevered under the most difficult circumstances. Having a large audience is a way for us to show how proud we are of them and honor their work. The presentation formats vary widely; some are videos, some are live Zooms, websites, the list goes on.

Classroom teachers, you can use the board how you wish. I would suggest sharing it with kids and families, and have them choose a few to view each day. You could also assign it comfortably as a valuable part of “viewing” ELA standards. :) You could also have them choose one a day and reflect in writing or verbally. Whatever you choose!

The Invitation and Exhibition Schedule with links will be ready to share on Friday morning. I also made an Exhibition video that I’ll be including. I shed tears each time I edit because the situation is heartbreaking for our kids. But also because I’m overjoyed with pride of who they have become. As a school, we continue to innovate and create new, memorable, and sometimes beautiful experiences for them, despite... And they continue to learn and rise to meet our expectations.

Thanks for all the support. We are QUEST. ❤️
    From Casey:
I hope you and your family are safe and healthy.  Thanks for all you are doing for our students.  We don’t know when the time will come, but we will reopen school to students at some point.  As we finish up this academic year, we are seeking your input as we develop our reopening plan for when the time comes.  Please take the time to share your input at the following link.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Have a good day.

If you would like to contribute your vocals to the QUEST Brady Bunch Song use this google folder to get the lyrics and a link to the song.  Open a voice recorder, record and then send the MP3 to Stephanie for her to mix it.  We will take a video at the Coffee Hour Zoom.

Need-to-Know for 5/8/20

  • Parents will receive an email on Monday informing them about narrative based reports from the teacher, and they will also receive instructions/a sign up for the week of 5/18/20 to enter to the building to collect belongings.
  • Speaking of collecting belongings, each classroom will have a table placed outside of it. On that table, we will have any bagged items found within the classroom. As parents come, there are three things they are allowed to do: grab their child's bag from the table, get items from their child's locker, and grab their instrument from the stage. Parents will not be allowed to go anywhere else. In addition, we are not asking them to turn things in at this point since we still have a month+ of school left. We will have a collection day after school is out where they will place anything they borrowed from a teacher, or from the school, in a labeled box so it can sit and become germ free.
  • Don't forget to utlize choice boards! An email was shared yesterday with all the weekly options.

Google Classroom- uploading images

If you are having your students upload images for assignments to Google Classroom; you might want to consider having them use the Google Classroom app on their's or their parents smart phone. The Google Classroom App can make this process much easier.  This video demonstrates the process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpOTxdvr8dE The app can be found in either the Google Play store for android phones or the App Store for iPhone.

Next Week

Next week we start fake-break. As a result:

  • Please limit checking email to once a day.
  • You will not be getting email communication from me unless it is in response to a need you have.
  • Turn off work at all other times.
  • Do something for you.
  • Connect with others!

As the story teaches, we each have a choice to make. As you look at your break next week, what can you do to feed the right wolf?

Please email your choice board to students/families with the following message at 2:30 today.

Dear Families,

We hope you and your children are well. With the recent communication about the cancellation of Spring Break, we know there are mixed feelings about continuing home learning. We made a decision to use next week as an opportunity to share home learning activities that require less technology (although we still offer some technology based options) and that can be completed as independently as possible.

Each level team collaboratively created a Choice Board to guide next week's learning. A learning Choice Board contains a variety of learning experiences for your child to choose from, on any day, at any time. Once that experience has been completed, they "X" off that square until the board is complete. Teachers will not require learning evidence to be "turned in" but instead you may enjoy the flexibility of learning!

Here are a few other notes about next week:
  • Next week’s learning will look and feel differently than the last two weeks.
  • Have fun!
  • We really want you to enjoy some time with your family, and to unplug a little this week!
  • Try your best to complete some learning experiences, but please don't stress over getting them all done!
Please contact your child's teacher via email with any additional questions, but we hope you have a relaxing, family focused week!

We miss you.

Sincerely,
QUEST Teachers
