Team,
The blog has been updated this week.
QUEST Elementary: a team of learners dedicated to working interdependently to do what is best for all students.
From Andrea: Skills are BUILT not BORN
Friendliness is a skill.
Public speaking is a skill.
Math is a skill.
Bowling. Leadership. Grit.
Skill. Skill. Skill.
The idea that we are in control our abilities is empowering to some and is the driving force behind every great learner.
To others, not so much.
Wrestling with the notion that our abilities (or lack thereof) are in our control can be unsettling, so many of us choose to hide behind stories.
Click here to enjoy this article about the importance of explicitly teaching skills and addressing mindset. It comes from A.J. Juliani, one of my FAVORITE progressive education gurus.

Do you have books that work as a mirror and books that work as a window?
Article: Take a look and think critically about your learning environment. How can you ensure that your workspace is filled with compassionate discipline?
In your mailbox today, you'll have order forms to send home with the students and the picture cards that the students will give the photographer when they get their pictures taken (hang on to those slips of paper). Staff also has the slips of paper to bring on picture day. Leave them somewhere safe in your room. If you don't have those on picture day (or you weren't give one before), you'll still be able to go get your picture taken. Staff can have their pictures taken between 8:30-9:00 on picture day.
Pictures will be done in the Board of Ed. Room this year. Your class will be lined up in the hall while they wait for their pictures.
Sign ups for picture day slots are now open, and can be found in the Sign Ups tab on the top of this blog. Once you open the tab, check the bottom tabs for the Picture Day sign up.
