Weekly Update

Team,

Weekly Need-to-Know:

  • I will be out of the building on Friday, 1/7/22. Carol Saladzius, High School AP and QUEST parent, will be covering for me. Please make her feel right at home.
  • In the event that you need to be out, the main office would respectfully ask that you submit for the sub as soon as you know you will be out.
  • Next week, the staff meeting will become an independent study. The assignment for the staff meeting will be handed out Monday, and you will have until the end of the week to complete it. The reason for this is because of the current variant, and with all that many of us are dealing with at home, grace and flexibility needs to be displayed by me.
  • Thanks for your help with the fire inspection. Mike is just about complete with all he needs. The Grinch did NOT steal Christmas after all! :) Thanks for your work with this as well, Mike.
  • As we navigate these wild times, let's be the school that steps up to walk in the shoes of one another. When times are stressful, we have to dig deeper for this; kids deserve to see this, and we all deserve this level of grace. WE are QUEST.

A poem that a colleague shared with me that I wanted to pass along. Give yourself grace.

If I Could Live My Life Over Again
By Jorge Luis Borges

If I could live my life again.
Next time, I would try to make more mistakes.
I would not try to be so perfect, I would relax more.
I would be sillier than I have been.
I would take fewer things seriously.
I would be less fastidious.
Accept more risks, I would take more trips,
Contemplate more evenings,
Climb more mountains, and swim more rivers…
I would go to more places where I have not been,
Eat more ice cream and fewer beans.

I would have more real problems and less imaginary ones.
I was one of those people who lived
sensibly and meticulously every minute of their life.
Of course I have had moments of happiness.
But if I could go back in time, I would try to
have good moments only,
and not waste precious time.
I was someone who never went
anywhere without a thermometer, a
hot water bag, an umbrella
and a parachute. If I could live again,
I would travel more frivolously.

If I could live again, I would begin
to walk barefoot at the beginning of the spring
and I would continue to do so until the end of autumn.
I would ride more merry-go-rounds,
I would contemplate more evenings and I would play
with more children.
If I could have another life ahead.

Healthy Recipe of the Week

Turkey/Ham Pepper Boats

Ingredients:

-Bell Pepper (any color)

-1 slice provolone cheese

-6 slices of turkey or ham deli meat

-"Everything but the bagel" seasoning blend

Cut a bell pepper in half. Put 3 slices of deli meat on each half and top with 1/2 a slice of provolone cheese. Sprinkle with "everything but the bagel" seasoning to add some flavor. You can either microwave for 30 seconds to a minute (to melt the cheese and soften the pepper) or you can pop this in the air fryer at 350 for 5 minutes for crispy deli meat. This is so easy for lunch or a quick dinner idea. Enjoy!

Healthy Recipe of the Week

QUEST Sled Race

 QUEST staff,

The ground is not exactly covered with snow just yet but it’s never too early to get the kiddos fired up about one of our long standing traditions, the sled race!

The sled race will be held on Friday, January 21st  at 9:30.

A few of you have reached out regarding the dimension requirements for this year. See document below for this year’s guidelines.

Our goal is to make it an enjoyable experience for all and the amount of time and effort put into building a sled is entirely up to the teacher. The tech room will be fully stocked after break and I will have a sign-up sheet hanging outside of the tech room for the 3 weeks leading up to the event. Please remind your students that they can bring in materials from home if they wish but the construction of the sleds has to take place in school. Parents are welcome to come in and assist your classes in the tech room but please make sure they are not in the tech room without a teacher in there as well. If you have items that need to be cut but you run out of time during the school day, have your students bring them to me and I can cut them before or after school.

Please, do not let your student spray paint their sleds on the sidewalk outside of the tech room!!!!!

 For Primary Classes below

I will be providing sled kits to the Primary classes again this year. Please let me know if you are a primary class and would like a kit. These kits will consist of:

-1 piece of plywood to be used as the sled base

- 2 plexi-glass runners (skis)

-2 wooden risers that connect the runners to the sled base.

As a class you can simply discuss the design you want your sled base to look like and I will cut them for you. You will then assemble the 3 items into a sled using liquid nail (will be provided to you) and you can then paint them as a class and make them look amazing!

If we have a very cold day, we plan to have the event streaming in the auditorium this year. If  we have any individuals that wish to watch it but its too cold for them, the auditorium is an option.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Thanks!

Weekly Update

Team,

There is no video message this week.

Need-to-know:

  • Great work with the evacuation. In the event that you are assigned to a class that is not "your" assigned class, and we are in a location other than the classroom you work in, please bring the roster with you. This will help with attendance.
  • Fire Inspection on the 15th. We will be getting a list soon of corrections we need to make prior to the 15th, and Mike will be coming around to let you know if it pertains to your space. Please know he is not intentionally trying to be the Grinch that stole Christmas! We appreciate your hard work, Mike!
  • On 12/23 we will have a modified special schedule day.  If you typically have a double special on that day, coverage will be provided to give you the additional twenty minutes (the additional twenty minute time slot will be shared when we are closer to the day). Special areas are ending the dance planner with fun and celebration--kudos! 9-10 North Pole classes: Yensan, B. Jones, C. Jones, Firkins, Lippincott, Gibbs, Tracey     10:15-11:15  Equator classes: DiBattisto, Langswager, Monfiletto, PJ, Elias, Moore, Francesca, Velyk   1:20-2:20 South Pole classes: Strecker, Stanford, Tomszak, Booth, Pierri, Carpenter, Butlin
  • Joy Shop is next Thursday and Friday.
  • SIT is challenging all of us to cross-school connection. Near the mailboxes you will find cards. Fill one out for a colleague that you don't typically connect with. Once you have done that, add your name in the box EACH time you write a card. At the end of the month we will select a winner who will win $50 to spend on classroom goodies.
  • We have a variety of morning procedures, and some poles are meetings once a week, some twice. We are not doing a school-wide meetings. Because of this, we have not had a consistent process as a school for saying the pledge. If you do not already do so, please be sure you are adding a class-wide pledge to your morning procedures.
